Early during summer mornings we prepare ourselves to head out to the beach for fun, relaxing and pleasure activities. We prepare our gear with provisions including sunblock: to protect from solar radiation exposure, Water: to prevent dehydration, Food: to nourish the body and provide energy, Umbrellas: to serve as sun shields and make-shift shade to keep cool and away from ultraviolet light from the sun.
Late in the afternoon around 4pm you decide to gather your belongings, friends, family members and at times pets to make ready to depart the beach and head to each of your homes. Suddenly you notice a numbness at the lower calve of your leg, you reach down and touch the area to discover that it's oozing with an open wound the size of a dime. The dog begins to scratch and you notice that the entire family has these open wounds. Just then your neighbors who joined you at the beach call with the same reports. Without the proper information you, your neighbors and your family members including the pets decide to dismiss these annoying bites to be no more than mosquito bites. Days go by and now two weeks and those annoying bites are now infected and releasing even more ooze.
What could this mean? It is highly recommended when traveling or camping to be sure to have a DEET with you to repel disease carrying sand flies that can cause more than long term open skin wounds but harmful sickness and disease
