Formally reclassified as a submarine rescue ship The USSFalcon was designated as the ASR-2 and upon urgent request she was sent to assist in rescuing crewmen from the USSSqualus and after successfully accomplishing that mission, The USSFalcon supported operations, for submarine rescue and salvage for the next five years.
